‘The Red Track’ portrays a vivid Australian outback sunset scene. I drew inspiration from a stunning photograph a facebook friend gave me permission to paint. The red dirt path winds through scrubby silver low lying bushes. On either side of the track stand two tall, slender ghost gums, which evoke a sense of peace and solitude. I added two birds taking flight into the sky to give a sense of freedom and movement to the scene. I changed the sky (which was a bright white in the photograph) to soft pastel hues of pink, peach and light blue. The glowing outback sun illuminates the rich red earth creating a tranquil and warm atmosphere. The combination of the red earth and subtle colours of the sky creates a striking contrast, drawing attention to the beauty of nature in this remote area.
